Limekiln Ranch
Limekiln Ranch
Working closely with the owner and architect, the project was sited below a small canyon on a 500 acre ranch in the eastern Gabilan Mountains. The driveway was designed to loop in from the side, to retain the primary meadow views from the house. The house is contained within a datum of arched stone and rammed earth walls and concrete wiers. The wiers provide the secondary funtion of slowing and capturing stormwater from roof runoff and site drainage. Stepped terraces of permeable gravel paving encourage the infiltration of rainwater, while providing intimate lounging terraces below the house and guest bedrooms. Paying homage to the expansive scale of the site, outdoor spaces adhere to the architectural pattern, tucking in or extending primary lines toward nature. The result, a seamless integration of architecture, outdoor space and nature.
